Early positive biodiversity effects on total biomass in experimental tree seedling assemblages with and without water limitation

چکیده

Questions While positive effects of tree diversity on community biomass have often been reported in mature stands, the debate whether may be detectable at seedling level persists, with opposing outcomes found so far. We still lack a comprehensive evaluation biodiversity (so-called ‘complementarity’ and ‘selection’ effects), as well phenotypic drivers play, underlying early-community biomass. Even less is known about such change under water-limited conditions. Location Seeds from four species coexisting Mediterranean forest (Spain). Methods built experimental assemblages three levels — monocultures, two-species four-species mixtures two soil moisture quantified extent to which richness, identity, community-weighted mean (CWM) functional dissimilarity (FD) influence complementarity selection effects. computed CWM FD for seven traits related water light acquisition; we calculated above- below-ground measures level. Results Our results showed that drove greater more diverse stage. This pattern was largely favored by particular species, Quercus faginea, distinct (great height, lateral ramification root high dry matter content), induced effect Moreover, our study deficit limited production above-ground without interacting community’s richness. Conclusion provides evidence occur early, stage, it highlights essential role certain play their initial development stages favoring spatial resource partitioning. work motivates future studies apply integrated approaches assessing both community-wide species-specific understand biodiversity–biomass relationship.

Early positive effects of tree species richness on herbivory in a large-scale forest biodiversity experiment influence tree growth

Despite the importance of herbivory for the structure and functioning of species-rich forests, little is known about how herbivory is affected by tree species richness, and more specifically by random vs. non-random species loss. We assessed herbivore damage and its effects on tree growth in the early stage of a large-scale forest biodiversity experiment in subtropical China that features rando...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

ence in the productivity of the vegetation on the control plots. Odum et al. (2) observed comparable differences in productivity during old field succession, but these were attributable to previous fertilization and changes in the growth forms of the dominants, factors not adequately discussed by Hurd et al. We have also observed significant differences in the primary production of herbaceous c...

Trends over time in tree and seedling phylogenetic diversity indicate regional differences in forest biodiversity change.

Changing climate conditions may impact the short-term ability of forest tree species to regenerate in many locations. In the longer term, tree species may be unable to persist in some locations while they become established in new places. Over both time frames, forest tree biodiversity may change in unexpected ways. Using repeated inventory measurements five years apart from more than 7000 fore...

The purpose of this study was to examine the evaluating the potential of seed priming techniques in improving germination and early seedling growth of Aeluropus Macrostachys under salinity stress condition. This study was performed at the Islamic Azad University in Baft city which is located in southeast of kerman province (2250 meters above the sea level, 92º 17 N latitude and 56º 36 E longitu...
